When you think of Unions, Social Work is probably not the first profession that comes to mind. But the time is right to change that! This session will cover historical examples, the steps to forming a union at your workplace, and finally, why Social workers make fantastic organizers.

About the Presenter Breann Smith graduated from Wright State University in Dayton Ohio in 2015. Breann moved to Columbus Ohio, eventually finding her way to Equitas Health in Newark Ohio in 2017 as a medical case manager working with those living with HIV. In 2021, Breann spearheaded efforts to organize the first union at Equitas Health winning recognition in 2022. The first contract was ratified in April 2024 with over a 95% approval rate and Breann was elected as the first president soon after.
