Currently, an estimated 6.5 million Americans age 65 and older are living with dementia. Individuals and families are struggling with how to navigate getting a diagnosis, living with dementia, and obtaining support. Participants will learn about four common dementia diagnoses, the diagnostic process including screening and assessment, effective communication strategies, understanding behavior and dementia care management and care planning, and supported decision making. This course meets the State of Illinois licensure requirements for clinical social work on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
