This workshop will examine current movements that seek to reimagine the way we as a society respond to the challenges we face by dismantling our existing systems and creating new ways of caring for each other. Founded on the idea of our moral imagination, this workshop will explore the harm that results from our current systems of care, and the need to move beyond these systems toward a new way of responding to societal problems.

    Objectives:
    1. Participants will understand the history of harmful outcomes that result from our current carceral systems
    2. Participants will learn strategies that can be taken to move toward abolition of these systems and to reimagine new ways of responding to societal problems
Presented by Alan Dettlaff, the University of Houston. This webinar was originally held at the 2020 NASW-MI Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) on October 19th, 2020.
