This 90-minute course is designed for mandated reporters as defined by the Illinois Abused and Neglect Child Reporting Act (ANCRA) and fulfills current IDFPR requirements for a mandated reporter training with implicit bias section. Determinations to make a report to the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline are complex and challenging for the professionals obligated to promote the safety of children. Unfortunately, our professional decision-making can be compromised by attitudes and beliefs that influence our perception of information that we learn within our professional capacity. Racial bias contributes to the persistent problem of racial disproportionality in the child welfare system. As we build our reflective capacity, our awareness of bias strengthens and can be used to enhance professional decision-making.
