Cost: SPS Members: Free / Non-SPS Members: $20 / Non-NASW Members: $30 Similarly to other chronic illnesses, living with HIV/AIDS can brings a complex range of bio-psychosocial-spiritual issues into a client’s life. For some clients, there is the identifiable co-factor of substance use and recovery, as well as mental health challenges. This presentation will increase the social work practitioner’s knowledge of HIV/AIDS, and expand knowledge and skills to work towards an integrated response to address HIV, substance use, and mental health to more effectively serve clients and their families.Learning Objectives- Describe the common risk factors that link HIV and substance use.
- Understand the bio-psycho-social - spiritual and behavioral aspects of substance use and HIV/AIDS.
- Review tools to help client assess for sexual health, substance use, and HIV/AIDS risk and identify and describe harm reduction techniques.
- Learn resources that will support social work practice at the micro, macro, and mezzo levels of practice.
