This session will feature three Minnesota social workers who have gone off on their own. Come hear their stories, how they got started, benefits and pitfalls, and lessons and best advice. One of our speakers is doing DEI consulting, another is in private clinical practice, and our third speaker started their own organization. If you're thinking of starting something on your own don't miss this session!
About the Presenters
Brittany Clausen (she/her) is the Founder and Visionary Strategist of Envision Greatness. For almost ten years, she has helped professionals become equitable and inclusive leaders and achieve their business goals through mindful leadership coaching, training, and strategic planning. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and graduated with a Master's of Social Work degree from St. Catherine University, Saint Paul, MN. She currently serves as the Vice President and Racial Justice Chair of the National Association of Social Workers MN Chapter. Brittany believes in developing radical solutions through a social justice lens to help professionals acknowledge and understand their level of influence in the workplace and community and use it for good.
Deborah Perry is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who graduated from St. Thomas/St. Kate's with an MSW and earned her BSW from Augsburg. She is licensed as a clinician in 5 states and has owned her own solo private practice since 2009 in 3 different states. She describes the decision to start her own practice as the best one she ever made, second only to marrying the love of her life 45 years ago. has served on NASW chapter boards of directors in Illinois, Wisconsin, and currently in Minnesota as the geographical rep for Twin Cities West. She also represented Minnesota in the NASW Delegate Assembly last year. facilitates the Private Practice Affinity group, is active on the membership committee and PACE committee. In her spare time, enjoys swimming and spending time with her husband, Keith, and their two sons and their families, including 6 grandchildren.
Katy Armendariz, MSW, LICSW, is a local social worker from the Twin Cities who fiercely engages in community-based advocacy and provides culturally responsive care to the community from a harm-reduction lens, somatic, de-westernized lens. She is on the NASW Board and is Founder and President at Roots Wellness Center. She is passionate about creating grassroots, innovative programs that address community gaps, and filling the need for culturally-humble, trauma informed care.
