This experiential presentation will focus on applying attachment theory to group therapy. Goals of this session will include fostering a nuanced understanding of how individual attachment styles collide in a group setting, applying individually tailored techniques based on attachment status, and identifying ways of deepening emotional experience as it relates to attachment theory. This presentation includes a demonstration of therapeutic technique.
Learning Objectives 1. Learn how to conduct a pre-group screening interview to assess attachment styles 2. Learn how to create goals designed to treat attachment insecurity in a group setting 3. Identify experiential techniques that can be used to treat attachment related issues during group therapy sessions
About the Presenter Jon (he/him) is a licensed psychologist board-certified in Group Psychology (ABPP), and is a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP). Jon has run interpersonal process groups for over a decade, and currently serves on the Board of Directors at the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He has run groups at the inpatient, outpatient, lOP and PHP levels, and has supervised numerous interns on their group therapy rotations. He has specialized expertise in the clinical applications of attachment theory to individual and group work.
