  Description

Social work has gone to the dogs! The presenter offers a brief introduction to canine-assisted practice from a micro, mezzo, and macro perspective. Topics will include ethics in practice, program development and implementation, and intervention techniques with children and families.

Objectives:
  1. Participants will leave with an understanding of the difference between service animals, emotional support animals, and therapy animals, as well as an understanding of the difference between animal-assisted activity and animal-assisted therapy
  2. Participants will acquire a basic understanding of the ethics and principles critical to effectively implementing animal-assisted therapy
  3. Identify and complete necessary steps for program development and implementation
  4. Participants will acquire techniques for implementing canine assisted therapy with individuals and groups to achieve treatment objectives in the outpatient setting
