This webinar reviews the latest evidence-informed strategies for social workers to help assess and address pain within interdisciplinary models of care. The presentation includes best practice strategies for facilitating open communication about physical discomfort and its impact of one’s life and well-being. Potential barriers to effective pain treatment, such as stoicism, stigma, and concerns about being a burden on others, will be considered. While acknowledging the backdrop of the national opioid crisis, the call for greater use of non-pharmaceutical and complementary treatment approaches will also be highlighted.

    Learning Objectives:
    • Articulate key domains of a comprehensive, multidimensional pain assessment.
    • Describe social work driven strategies to treat pain.
    • Identify and address potential barriers to effective pain management.
