With the pandemic impacting communities across the nation, leading to a new mental health crisis, community members who are underserved, oppressed and experience mental health stigma are at a greater risk of facing mental health distress. The risks increase when policy and politics dictate and limit community members’ access, rights, and opportunities that enable individuals to secure basic safety, physiological and health needs.

While immigrants have commonly been implicated by various social determinants of health, the pandemic, increased racist political climate, and upcoming presidential election have led to a rise in anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder in immigrants with temporary or undocumented statuses. As social workers, our code of ethics calls to respond to community’s distress and injustices through micro, mezzo, macro approaches.

This webinar, featuring an interdisciplinary team of mental health providers, scholars, and Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, will provide trauma-informed will provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive strategies to respond and promote the mental wellbeing of DACA recipients.

    Learning Objectives:
    • Describe the stressors that immigrants with undocumented and temporary status face and current environmental stressors heightening distress
    • Describe how mental health distress may manifest in DACA recipients
    • Provide clinical, mezzo and macro approaches and strategies to alleviate distress and promote healing
