The importance of Culturally Relevant Social Services provides an appreciation of differences with Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and People of Color (POC). Developing a broader range to provide social services with culturally informed care will support an increase of successful social work, therapeutic care, and work relationships. To appreciate a culture’s values, beliefs, and norms goes beyond the normal “I understand you” or “I know all about your culture.”
The goal of this workshop is designed to:
- Foster a deeper dive into how Social Services should demonstrate an appreciation for diverse cultures they serve.
- Incorporate the use of Trauma Informed Care Language e.g., how to respond appropriately to someone of a different culture, documenting culturally relevant notes, and creating a welcoming environment.
Explore the influence of culturally responsiveness and how culturally relevant services can improve outcomes.
