Being a leader is a multifaceted task, and the leader must have a sense of what that entails. Understanding culture therefore, and the embedded component of race, is an important aspect of this task and is required to be a successful leader.
At the completion of this program, participants should be able to: 1. Understand leadership theories and the concept of leadership within the context of culture 2. Identify the challenges in effective leadership, including racism, microaggressions, blind spots, and biases 3. Identify avenues for engaging empowered leadership
This course is provided by the Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Change. Contributing members include Angela Wangari Walter, PhD, MPH, LCSW; Robbie Tourse, PhD, MS, LICSW; Yvonne Ruiz, PhD, LICSW; Helene Kress, MSSS; Betty Morningstar, PhD, MSW; and Bet MacArthur, LICSW. The vision of the Center is to enhance the power for knowledge to create social change. The Center engages in a variety of ways of learning and teaching about cultural diversity that emphasize race and other social justice issues. The Center strives to integrate critical thinking, research, and creativity to promote social change.
