Our Black boys are in crisis. The Children's Center knows because they've been working with Black boys and Detroit children for more than 90 years. Black boys are disproportionately affected by implicit bias, racism, and a lack of trauma-informed community support systems. They experience trauma at a much higher rate than their white counterparts. This disparity creates unimaginable challenges and keeps them from living their dreams and becoming the amazing people they were born to be. The workshop will provide an overview of the 3-part phase that The Children's Center has begun, and how they are intentionally calling to action members from various systems that directly impact the lives of Black boys.
Objectives:
- The audience will increase their knowledge of how trauma affects black boys versus their white counterparts over time
- The audience will increase their knowledge of the impact of unrecognized trauma and how various systems such as education, judicial systems, legislative etc. play a role when trauma is not understood
