Social work has gone to the dogs! The presenter offers a brief introduction to canine-assisted practice from a micro, mezzo, and macro perspective. Topics will include ethics in practice, program development and implementation, and intervention techniques with children and families.
Objectives:
- Participants will leave with an understanding of the difference between service animals, emotional support animals, and therapy animals, as well as an understanding of the difference between animal-assisted activity and animal-assisted therapy
- Participants will acquire a basic understanding of the ethics and principles critical to effectively implementing animal-assisted therapy
- Identify and complete necessary steps for program development and implementation
- Participants will acquire techniques for implementing canine assisted therapy with individuals and groups to achieve treatment objectives in the outpatient setting
