Clinical Implications of Identifying and Treating Race Based Trauma
Presented by Patricia Parker, CSW and Dawn-Shelton Williams, MSW, LCSW
Socio-Cultural or race-based trauma, and its negative impact on the overall wellness of African Americans, is just beginning to be researched and addressed in clinical practice. This workshop will highlight the physiological, emotional, and psychological impact racism, discrimination and toxic stress has on the well-being of African Americans. This workshop will focus on best practice strategies; assessments tools developed to evaluate the negative effect of racism on the quality of life; and treatment interventions that incorporate resiliency factors that are essential components of client engagement and service delivery. Workshop Objectives
