Trans-Inclusive Care in Social Work Practice3 CEUs - may be counted as cultural responsiveness CEUs
Presenter: Emerson Ball, MSW, LGSW (he/they)
Come explore the role of language and important considerations for creating more trans-inclusive spaces. We will learn ways to directly influence our immediate practice and environment to more fully support trans and gender non-conforming (GNC) folks. We will also look at how cisnormativity, transphobia, and erasure have influenced our practice, and develop strategies to push back on these systemic forces. Join us in identifying areas for growth as trans/GNC allies internally and within systems in our immediate proximity.
About the PresenterEmerson Ball received their MSW from Augsburg University in 2019. Before beginning their work in community mental health at a Seward Community Support Program, they completed undergraduate research at Augsburg University exploring cultural competence in the medical field and within medical training in serving with trans folks. Their research interests include trans/feminist/queer theory, and disability justice. They have experience working in supportive housing, shelters for youth, community mental health, and providing narrative therapy to queer and trans youth.
