Anger is an everyday emotion experienced by all people to a greater or lesser extent, but it is one of the emotions least studied by researchers. While some researchers assert that clients seek psychotherapy services for help with anger as often as for anxiety, there remains a dearth of research regarding anger, especially women’s experience of anger. Julie Catalano, LICSW, evaluates the role of race, ethnicity, culture, and socioeconomic status in assessing women clients’ anger triggers and reactions. She assesses the possible role of anger and underlying stressors in somatic symptoms or the inhibition of health enhancing activities. She shares her experience helping women clients to develop positive and effective anger management strategies.
