    This is a RECORDED workshop.

Domestic violence impacts all demographics, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic standing, ethnicity or sexual orientation. However, it is important to examine the unique realities of those minority voices so as to better address the struggles faced by historically marginalized groups. In this presentation, we will examine how social determinants of health and systems of oppression influence the experiences of domestic violence for members of the LGBTQ+ community, recent immigrants, those who use substances and our older population. Not fitting the established conception of who a domestic abuse victim is, these populations have traditionally been excluded from services and support. We are working to change that, by broadening our understanding of domestic violence and listening to every victim/survivor, we can build a healthier, safer future.

    About the Presenter:

Anna Dullea attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada where she earned a degree in International Development with a minor in the Social Studies of Medicine. Anna has held many roles supporting marginalized populations including working a paraprofessional for neurodivergent students, supporting those experiencing homelessness as well as those with substance use disorder, and as an advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Currently, she is the Community Educator at Caring Unlimited, the Domestic Violence Resource Center that serves York County, Maine. In her free time, Anna enjoys hiking, rock climbing and reading a good Agatha Christie book.
