This is a RECORDED workshop.
1 formal CEU approved by NASW ME.
The purpose of this workshop is to review the available evidence or lack thereof related to the validity of the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) licensing exams. State regulatory boards have long integrated these exams into their licensing requirements for social workers.
Unfortunately, use of the ASWB exams in that process has generated severe disparities in licensing on the basis of race, age, and first language. In this workshop we'll review longstanding and newly published evidence that the ASWB exams are not a valid measure of a social worker's ability to practice safely and ethically.About the presenter:
Bryan Victor, Ph.D., MSW, (he/him) is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His research focuses on violence prevention, reducing harms associated with child welfare involvement, and ethical issues in social work practice.
