NASW-NYS: Incorporating Mindfulness into Clinical Settings
Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of one’s own thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment. The practice of mindfulness creates awareness in oneself and its emphasis on remaining present, is valuable during times where things are beyond our control. Research has found that mindfulness-based interventions may help decrease symptoms of anxiety and stress and increase emotional awareness and regulation. In this one-hour workshop, attendees will learn and understand what mindfulness is, learn the benefits of a mindfulness practice, engage in a mindfulness exercise, and learn how to apply mindfulness into a clinical setting with clients. Discussion will include tips and ways to apply mindfulness through in-person, tele-health, and virtual clinical settings, and reflect on how mindfulness exercises are beneficial to one's self-care practice during a pandemic.
