DSM Updates: What Social Workers Need to Know

    Presenter: Denise Johnson, LCSW-C

1 CEU - may be counted as clinical

In March 2022, the American Psychiatric Association released the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR), an updated version of the DSM-5. The DSM is regarded as the authoritative guide to the diagnosis of mental disorders and is used by clinical social workers and other health care professionals in the United States. The purpose of this presentation is to familiarize social workers with the changes found in the newly released DSM-5-TR.

    About the Presenter
Denise Johnson is a Senior Practice Associate for Clinical Social Work at the National Association of Social Workers. She advocates on behalf of social workers and provides professional expertise in specific practice and policy areas to guide clinical social work practice. She also provides technical expertise to NASW Chapters, members, other relevant divisions within the Association and external organizations. Denise is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 15 years of experience. She also is a board-certified clinical supervisor and received her MSW at University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2005. Some of her experience includes providing psychotherapy in community mental health, private practice, and supporting soldiers and families as a Military and Family Life Counselor. During her time as a Military and Family Life Counselor, Denise has received several military awards of excellence.
