1 hour 30 minutes

Date:
June 5, 2026 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM (Eastern Time (US & Canada))
This presentation addresses the Legal Determinants of Health framework to show the impact of law and policy effects upon LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing. Legal determinants of health, or LDOH, refer to macro-level factors that include laws, policies, institutional practices, and governance processes, which shape – or structure – the social determinants of health (SDOH). SDOH include, among other factors, socioeconomic, behavioral and environmental conditions. Notably, LDOH are structural interventions that shape the conditions of SDOH. Drawing upon a recently published article (“Leveraging Legal Determinants of Health for Evidence-Based Care Among People Identifying as LGBTQ+”) in the Journal of Evidence-Based Social Work by the Presenter, this webinar examines the state of LGBTQ+ health, expands our cultural literacy and highlights opportunities for advocacy in action.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
Describe the Legal Determinants of Health framework.
Apply emerging cultural concepts to social work practice.
Analyze law and policy effects upon LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing.
