Medical ethics may be seen differently from the medical model versus from a social worker lens. Where are these differences? What can a social worker do to advocate for a patient? What to do if the patient is no longer able to participate in their own health care decision-making? What impedes determination of the correct health care decision-makers? The principles of medical ethics will be examined. The importance of a power of attorney for healthcare will be discussed. The Illinois statute of Healthcare Surrogacy will be delineated. Finally, cultural sensitivity will be shared. This is a presentation with real life examples while encouraging audience participation and discussion.
