When you think about examples of body image issues do you get stuck with images of weight discrimination or eating disorders? This happens because our understanding of body image issues is centered around whiteness. This webinar will explore a re-centering of body image issues around the most marginalized. Together we will explore concrete ways to reorient our understandings of body image issues and body liberation around marginalized populations of color, uncover unintentional biases about "good healthy" bodies in our language and behavior, and remind ourselves why we always need to be holding systems of power (like science and medicine) accountable. We will intentionally focus on colonized histories and worldviews, discussing issues of racialized medical oppression and scientism.
