Cross-Cultural Issues in Integrated Healthcare Services: A Social Work Perspective
This one hour webinar will demonstrate the influence of race/ethnicity/culture on the utilization of health care services is a response to the: (1) current and projected demographic changes; (2) elimination of the disproportionate burden of disability from unmet health needs for individuals who are different; (3) need for culturally appropriate interventions and outcomes and (4) increase in awareness and understanding of provider bias which contributes to health disparities. Developing cross-cultural knowledge in health services, in part, requires an understanding of the influence of race and culture on illness because individual perceptions of illness may be related to both culture and racial identity. Cross-cultural knowledge is important for understanding the perceptions within the contextual and relationship dimensions of practice and understanding values, policies, systems, provider relationships, disease processes, and the explanation of illness.
