Workshop Description
Many licensed clinical social workers are eligible to bill Medicare—but few receive formal training on how to do it confidently and ethically. This course offers a practical, foundational overview of how Medicare works for mental health providers, specifically LCSWs.
Participants will learn how to enroll, bill accurately, document in alignment with federal guidelines, and understand the key distinctions between Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and supplemental plans.
The training will also address ethical issues such as informed consent, transparency in billing, and equitable access to care for older adults and individuals with chronic health conditions. Clinicians will leave with actionable steps, downloadable resources, and real-world scenarios to build competence and confidence in working with this underserved population.
Learning Objectives
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the Medicare credentialing process for LCSWs and identify the essential steps for enrollment.
- Evaluate clinical documentation for Medicare compliance, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical necessity language.
- Identify ethical and cultural considerations when serving Medicare-eligible populations, including older adults and individuals with disabilities.
- Discuss how Medicare coverage and compliance requirements may impact service delivery for clients with chronic illness, cognitive decline, or complex psychosocial needs.
