Pre and Post-Pandemic: Rethinking and Reassessing Our Ethical and Moral Obligations
For the past 2 years, as social service workers, we have faced unprecedented challenges and changes both personally and professionally to include increased stress, illnesses, losses, vacant positions, increased feelings of responsibility, numerous financial cuts, and program closures in our communities. We are now entering a new phase (post-pandemic) where we are trying to engage and interact in a changed world, as changed selves. A world where many are trying to pretend all is normal once again. As we begin to work and engage in the new environment, together we will begin to ask and explore: how do we decide what is moral, what is ethical, and how do we find new grounding? How have my own priorities, boundaries and identity changed as a helping professional and what is my relationship with self-care?
