SBIRT: How To Identify and Address Unhealthy Substance Use
SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) is a model developed for primary care to help providers, including Social Workers, identify and discuss patients’ unhealthy substance use, including risky use and substance use disorders. This model uses validated screening tools and relies heavily on Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI has gained wide acceptance in variety of healthcare and human service settings, and especially for use with substance users and misusers. This workshop will review what SBIRT is, why it is important, and how to implement it in practice. Learning Objectives Participants will be able to:

Become familiar with a variety of validated screening measures to identify unhealthy substance use
