During "Affirmative Social Work and Supervision for Transgender and Non-binary Clients", we will look at current standards of practice for Affirmative Therapy and statements against conversion, aversion, or reparative therapies (NASW, APA, WPATH). We will discuss the social work code of ethics as it relates to affirming client's gender and sexual identities. Specifically, we will look at ethical care for this population of clients that often experience barriers to accessing care, discrimination, and unsafe healthcare settings. We will discuss ethical issues, such as safety and building rapport, the need for advocacy and social justice, and steps to decrease discrimination in social work settings. Additionally, we will invite discussion and personal reflection on our own implicit bias and individual understandings of gender identity that may impact our clients. A post-test is automatically administered at the conclusion of the session that must be completed with a 100% passing score to be awarded a CE certificate.
