Beating Anxiety: A Model for Understanding and Transforming Anxiety
3 CEUs for relicensure have been approved by NASW VT. #1103 NASW Vermont Chapter is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0683. Overview of the core characteristics of anxiety which become evident in developing a personalized Anxiety Spectrum Map with your client. Come and get a taste of a unique multi- dimensional approach for transforming anxiety. This 3 hour introductory session will include a demonstration of the model so participants will see its direct clinical application in increasing self awareness and identifying client-specific strategies for change. About the Presenter: Lisa Carton, LICSW Lisa has 36 years of experience working with children and adults in a wide range of clinical settings including domestic violence/sexual asssult, addiction treatment, HIV/AIDS work, foster care, psychiatric/crisis work, and private practice. She is currently the Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Bennington College and maintains a small private practice devoted largely to her work in developing a pragmatic multi-dimensional model for transforming anxiety. Lisa has a long history of embracing the holistic nature of healing, incorporating an array of energy based modalities into her work including reiki, yoga, qigong, and Biofield Tuning (a sound healing system using tuning forks to integrate the biofield). As a drummer/musician, she is aware of the potency of sound and bilateral stimulation; she has been certified in EMDR for over 20 years. Lisa is presently in the process of publishing a series of workbooks that demonstrate her model. The first one is specifically geared toward offering teachers and parents (and therapists, of course!) a fun and effective way to help children and young adults with anxiety (although people of all ages love it!). Her approach lends itself to a greater understanding of all human “stuckness”, including addictions, healing from the impact of trauma, struggles with physical pain, and finding greater joy in all aspects of life. She has used this approach over the past 20 years with hundreds of people, many reporting very positive results quickly. The model offers a nice framework for a personalized deep dive into exactly what to do to free ourselves from our habits of suffering (the very ones that used to effectively help us to survive difficult situations). She is honored and very excited to be offering her system to other healing practitioners.
