Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are common, treatable, and can occur at any time during pregnancy or in the first year after pregnancy. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, as many as 1 in 4 women suffered from symptoms of depression and anxiety during the perinatal period, and early data suggests that this number may now have increased. PMADs can have serious impacts on parental health and well-being as well as long-lasting impacts on children’s cognitive, behavioral, and academic development.
Come to this workshop to learn about PMADs, understand screening, treatment, and how to access helpful perinatal supports for your clients. Learn about Vermont resources to support your work, including a Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Service and the Help Me Grow Resource Hub to connect providers and clients to additional services.
Learning objectives:
1) Describe PMADS and evidence-based screening and treatment options.
2) Explain training opportunities to gain additional expertise in treating PMADs.
3) Discuss Vermont’s Support Delivered campaign resources for both families and providers.
4)Describe Vermont’s system of care for the perinatal population and their children and families and how you can connect your clients to services, consultation, and additional supports.
5) Discuss key takeaways and report recommendations from a new brief on the costs of untreated PMADs in Vermont together with a qualitative exploration of women with lived experience of PMADs.
