Families are at home living under the same roof in a way that no one ever expected. Parents who completed the developmental phase of separating from and launching their college age and adult children, are now living together indefinitely. Old family dynamics are resurfacing and new issues are coming into play. Family of origin challenges including parent/child dynamics, sibling conflicts, triangles, coalitions, and cut offs are resurfacing and showing up in new ways. Adult children returning to the family home and living under the same roof as parents and siblings is not an expected developmental phase in the family life cycle. For many, the global crisis has triggered not only a personal family crisis but also an opportunity and willingness to address unhealed wounds and engage in family therapy as never before.

Notice of Recording.  Please note that this event will be recorded. Learning Objectives:
•Help family members identify old dynamics that are currently impacting family cohesiveness and relationships
•Help each family member uncover and understand their role/contribution to the dynamic and family communication style
•Provide therapy for root cause of the issues, help family members understand where it’s coming from and provide families with tools or strategies to address issues differently in order to change the dynamic

    1 Social Work

Tracy K. Ross, Couples & Family Therapist
For over 30 years, Tracy has been working with couples and families at all phases of the life cycle. Tracy’s specialties include adult family therapy, discernment counseling, collaborative divorce, & sex therapy. She has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, EMDR, and Relational Sex Therapy.

Working with families and couples experiencing challenges throughout the lifecycle, Tracy came to think of what she was doing as ‘redesigning relationships’. She identified different events and personal triggers that would disrupt relationships and came to view her role as facilitating a ‘redesign’. This unique approach helps couples and families gain the connection and tools to go from volatility to versatility, distance to connection, and avoidance to intimacy.

Tracy created and is very excited to be launching a brand new course for therapists: Redesigning Family Dynamics. This course is designed for experienced therapists who want to expand their work to include adult family therapy. The official launch will be in 2022.

Tracy has a private practice in the West Village and for 10 years she was a faculty member on the Resilient Families/Special Needs Kids Project at the Ackerman Institute for the Family.

With graduate degrees from Columbia University and Fordham University, Ms. Ross is a licensed clinical social worker, organizational psychologist, certified discernment counselor, and collaborative divorce coach. She completed post-graduate training at the Ackerman Institute’s family & couples externship program.

Microsoft has been focusing on their new browser, EDGE, and has ended most support and all development for Internet Explorer (IE). This means Microsoft will not update IE’s security or functionality as technology advances. While we will continue to support IE to our best effort we highly recommend a browser like Google Chrome or Microsoft EDGE for a more secure and optimized experience.
