Course Description:
Of all the helping professions, social workers are arguably in the best position to advocate for better public policy. This is because social workers are on the front lines of client services issues, child mental health, family planning, and anti-poverty work -- to name just a few. For these reasons it is important that as a profession we have a grasp on our power as advocates and how we can best advocate (or lobby) at the State House.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how a bill becomes a law in Massachusetts.
2. Gain skills to assess the impact of a state budget on different client populations.
2. Learn 3 methods of directly influencing their state legislator.
