Toward Cultural Competence in Spiritual Diversity Presenter: George Dupuy, MSW, LICSW
3 CEUs - may be counted as clinical or cultural responsiveness CEUs; up to 1 hour may be counted as ethics CEUs.
This training will equip clinical social workers to engage with the religious and spiritual diversity of clients more directly. Drawing on evidence from previous research and presented through a combination of didactic learning, personal reflection and group-based examination of clinical case studies, clinicians will increase their understanding of religious coping and other benefits of engaging with their clients’ spiritual identities. Participants will also become familiar four assessment tools and receive a brief overview of spiritually-sensitive interventions in various modalities, including CBT and ACT, while examining ethical and practical challenges that may arise. This intentionally reflective and clinically-focused training was developed as part of a doctoral research capstone project; pre- and post-test evaluations (links in materials) will help guide further development of the training.
Note to registrants: Recording does not include time spent in small group work; please use this time for individual reflection on assigned activities. Pre and post-test evaluations are in the included materials for this course.
About the Presenter George Dupuy, LICSW, is a DSW candidate (University of Tennessee Knoxville). He is a clinical social work practitioner currently providing private psychotherapy and with previous experience in public behavioral health leadership. He is also a social worker educator currently teaching at George Mason University.
