A Trauma-Informed Approach to the Management of Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors
This paper will describe the model we put forward in Mirick et al. (2023), describing the ways that trauma-informed approaches can be used by social workers working directly with people experiencing suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to discuss the relationship between trauma and suicide.
Participants will be able to illustrate how each of the four R's of SAMHSA's definition of trauma-informed care can be applied to work with individuals with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Participants will be able to discuss examples of how each of the six principles of trauma-informed care can be used when working with individuals with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
