Co-parenting is a coaching model that provides conflict reduction between parents who are unable to effectively meet the needs of their children due to parental conflict. It is often ordered by the court system in an effort to reduce contentious litigation and place the focus on collaboration for the purposes of supporting the children. Often clinicians confuse co-parenting with family therapy but it does not involve diagnosing or treating psychopathology. It is a problem-solving model that focuses on the strengths of the parents to identify the needs of their children. This workshop will demonstrate the dynamics of co-parenting interventions. Using a collaborative model, the professional cooperation between a court appointed Guardian ad litem and a therapist will be emphasized.
