The US Constitution requires a decennial Census count of every living person in the United States. Many communities that social workers serve are considered “hard-to-count” populations, often missed by the Census. As we near the upcoming Census, this is a good time to make sure we are well informed about how the Census impacts funding, data and legislative representation, special challenges for the 2020 count, and how to support efforts to Get Out the Count with an awareness of the ethical and legal mandates that guide social workers’ engagement in social and political action.

    Attendees will be able to:
    • Recognize the importance and challenges of the 2020 Census
    • Identify “hard-to-count” groups and strategies to reach them
    • Understand the roles social workers can play in Get Out the Count efforts

Presented by Terri Klemm, DSW, LCSW and Peter Chen, J.D.
