    ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that interferes with behavior, motivation, relationships, learning and executive functioning. It has been primarily treated with medication for over 50 years. Current brain imaging techniques and research into the lifelong course of this disorder have allowed us to better understand and treat the illness.

    COURSE OBJECTIVES:

    1. Differential diagnosis: Understand the difference between ADHD, anxiety, Mood Dysregulation Disorder and substance misuse

    2. Explain ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder

    3. Understand the neuroscience of ADHD

    4. Understand why people with ADHD are not motivated to perform in the same way as neurotypical people

    5. Understand the role of medication in the treatment of ADHD

    6. Understand how different classes of ADHD drugs work in the brain

    1. Become familiar with the side effects/effects of ADHD medication

    Christine Miller, Ed.M., LCMHC, is in psychotherapy practice specializing in women and adolescents located in a 23 physician OB/GYN office, Women’s Counseling Center, Bedford, NH. She is a clinician with 45+ years of experience in treating women and adolescents in varied settings including schools, juvenile justice, a group home and family planning clinics. Christine specializes in integrating therapeutic tools, tailoring them to the individual and providing short-term, focused and brief psychotherapy.

    Christine received her Master of Education from Boston University. She designs and leads day-long workshops for mental health professionals and educators. Her particular interests are the biological basis of behavior and psychopharmacology, anxiety disorders, psychiatric disorders associated with reproduction, and teens/women’s issues.
