This workshop introduces a support framework for caregivers who are caring for an individual who is thinking about suicide or exhibiting suicidal behaviors. Given the stressful nature of caregiving and the lack of existing services, it is crucial to consider this population's unique needs. Derived from research in caregiver family therapy, suicide bereavement support and peer programs, the Suicide Caregiver Support Model takes a holistic approach. By pairing psychoeducation around suicide with a self-care system, social workers can effectively empower caregivers to provide support as well as sustain their own wellness. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be equipped with practical tools for implementation of supportive resources for suicide caregivers in both community and individual settings.
