Program Description:
This audio course will focus on central ethical issues that can arise in social work supervision. Supervision is not always given due credit and because of all the time constraints on social workers, supervision can seem superfluous, but it is absolutely central to ethical social work practice. None of us is immune to error; none of us can observe our own behavior from outside ourselves and without supervision we have no reliable check on our direction. Ethical supervision requires knowledge and skill on the part of the supervisor. This course offers guidance to supervisors in establishing supervisory practices that will benefit supervisor, supervisee and clients alike.
Learning Objectives:
1. To gain knowledge of the variety of different kinds of ethical responsibilities that social work supervisors have and the primary sorts of conflicts that they encounter.
2. To explore and reflect on different ways to respond to central ethical conflicts experienced in social work supervision.
3. To have greater knowledge of how to conduct supervision so as to serve workers and clients in the most ethical way.
