Presenter: Alyssa Clayden - MSW, LISW, PhD Candidate
Cost: Member: $50.00/Non-member: $75.00
Workshop Description:
In clinical practice, we often pride ourselves on talking about everything, on being open to discussions that the general public might find uncomfortable, exhausting or strange. However, the one topic we rarely discuss is whiteness, despite whiteness being a key part of US history and society, as well as social work and clinical mental health care systems. When we do not speak about whiteness in our practice and with our clients, we do not center person in environment perspectives. This training will provide theoretical and evidence-based support for directly incorporating whiteness into clinical practice, as it is already in the room with us.
Topics explored include:
- The role of racial identity in white patients
- The role of racial identity in white clinicians
- Theories of the psychopathology of whiteness
- Application of skills to inform clinical care across racial and ethnic identities and intersections
- Name and build action plans to address oppressive and repressive actions we ourselves enact in our practice, as individual clinicians, and as a social work community
Please note that NASW-IA charges a $25.00 Administration fee for any cancellation.WHO DO I CONTACT WITH MY QUESTIONS?
