Dr Clifford Sussman, a child psychiatrist who specializes in screen addictions, will present an overview of why digital technology is so stimulating and why children, teenagers, and young adults are most vulnerable to this stimulating affect. He will explain the biopsychosocial effects of heavy use of technology on the brain and behavior. Then he will describe a lifestyle with a healthy balance between online and offline activities and how to create home environments with reasonable but effective screen limits.
Learning Objectives:
The participants will learn to describe the characteristics of digital technology that make it hard to resist and hard to stop. They will understand the effects of prolonged use on the brain. And they will have a basic model for what balanced, healthy screen use looks like and how to shape an environment to encourage it.
