Mezzo Social Work Practice With Afghan Populations
This past year, a project for the National Association of Social Worker (NASW) was implemented to provide professionals with information to best serve those arriving in the U.S. from Afghanistan after the end of the war in 2021. During the final webinar, the focus is in providing mezzo level practice to the national social work professional community to support communities as they create resources for the population.
The first webinar was a general overview of the Afghan Evacuee situation and an overview of the areas of support social workers can provide. The previous webinar in April of 2023 was on micro practice with a focus on clinical services. The goal of this final instalment is to provide an overview of mezzo services that connect community organizations together to provide services to these new Americans.
During the presentation, professionals at various levels of program management will discuss their experience in collaborating with organizations that support the newest Afghan arrivals.
Each presenter will have 10 to 15 min of presentation time. An overview of the project’s accompanying toolkit will be reviewed. This is an ongoing online resource for providers to use.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will understand the various applications of the mezzo level of the ecological framework in practice with people from Afghanistan.
Participants will be able to apply unique concepts of community connection when serving people from Afghanistan.
Participants will be able to access the toolkit as they continue to support people from Afghanistan.
