Medical Aid in Dying: What Should Social Workers Know?Presenter: Mary Carlsen, MSW, LISW2 CEUs - may be counted as ethics or general CEUs.More than 20 states have introduced and/or passed legislation to allow medical aid in dying; interest is growing. Social workers need to know the literature, the NASW Policy Statement on End-of-Life Decision-Making and Care, the central components of AID legislation, and ethical issues this policy raises.
About the Presenter
Mary (BSW, MSW) teaches social welfare history, ethics and policy at St, Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She helped to found an HIV clinic, completed a Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs fellowship, and was a visiting scholar at the University of East London, England. She serves on the NASW-MN and Northfield Hospital and Clinics ethics committees.
