Women and men are not treated equally under the law or in the criminal justice system. In this presentation we will look at the impact of this discrimination and bias on women and their children. We will review the incarceration rate and disposition of females in the US. We will talk about gender specific and Youth specific programming addressing mental health issues. We will discuss what happens for families because they are also “doing time.” We will cover what has changed, what still needs to change and what we as social workers and a society can do to bring justice to the justice system.
