The contemporary Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival aims to eradicate the interlocking systemic injustices of poverty, racism, militarism, and environmental devastation; it also confronts the false moral narrative that sustains them. Social workers involved in the Poor People’s Campaign have found that it enhances the effectiveness and ethical dimensions of their daily work from the clinic to the community and from direct practice to policy and research. In this webinar we explore how and why that happens, and the ways that the campaign turns pain into power for lasting change.Objectives:

• Understand the history of the Poor People’s Campaign and how its principles, strategy, and structure help overcome many of the obstacles that keep the profession from achieving its mission to promote social justice.
• Learn the theory of change underpinning the campaign and how practice with individuals intersects with the role of those directly impacted by poverty and other injustices to define solutions to these problems.
• Identify some policies and structures addressed by the campaign that intentionally or unintentionally impinge on social workers’ ethical and practice imperatives.
• Be able to use the campaign’s policy platform and organizing strategy to enhance both self-care in everyday practice and the transformation of unjust social, economic, and political institutions.
• Know the structure of the campaign and opportunities for involvement in the campaign and organizations grounded in its principles, assessments, and organizing strategy.
