Fostering Workplace Environments Where Neurodivergent Individuals Thrive
    Friday, March 27, 2026 - 10:00am-12:00pm CST
    Presenter: Dr. Matthew Vorell, PhD
    2 CEUs - Cultural Responsiveness

This presentation explores how to better support neurodiverse individuals in the workplace, drawing on expertise in leadership, organizational communication, and lived experience with Autism and ADHD. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of neurodiversity, learn effective communication strategies, and explore ways to foster inclusive workplace cultures. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants will develop actionable approaches to create environments where neurodiverse employees can thrive. By the end of the session, attendees will be better equipped to enhance inclusivity, improve communication, and support the diverse cognitive strengths that contribute to organizational success.

    Learning Objectives
    1.  Define neurodiversity and identify common neurodivergent traits (e.g., Autism, ADHD) to build foundational awareness and reduce stigma in workplace settings.
    2.  Apply effective communication strategies tailored to neurodiverse individuals to improve clarity, collaboration, and mutual understanding in professional environments.
    3.  Develop actionable plans to foster an inclusive workplace culture that supports neurodiverse employees through policy, practice, and everyday interactions.

    About the Presenter
Dr. Matt Vorell is a full professor in the Judy C. Pearson Department of Communication Studies at St. Cloud State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder and teaches leadership, communication theory, and workplace communication. He co-founded and mentors Huskies Advance, supporting undergraduate success. Dr. Vorell presents on enhancing neuroinclusivity in organizations, including talks for the Public Sector Human Resources Association of Minnesota and Scott County’s Health and Human Services team. He has published internationally in journals and textbooks. In his free time, he practices kung fu and enjoys woodcarving.
