EMDR & Trauma: When Talk Therapy Talks You Further In
For information about CEU validation for IL licensees only, please consult the attached material "For IL Licensees Only - CEU Validation Instructions" in the Materials tab.
Even the most advanced clinicians have found themselves stuck in trauma-focused therapy. Despite having a clear conceptualization of the trauma(s) and how the experiences are keeping your client stuck, you may have found that the intervention is not helping your client move in a direction that is important to them. EMDR can help navigate some of the obstacles that arise in therapy when distress continues to linger and change stagnates. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that can help folks to manage symptoms and emotional distress related to trauma and other life adversities. In this talk, we discuss the challenges we face as clinicians when working with folks who have experienced past trauma(s), as well as what to do when the impact(s) of trauma persists despite clinical intervention. Using a case example, a trained EMDR therapist will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how a clinician can pivot from one treatment to another and use EMDR to support client-driven goals.
