The Latiné population in the United States has experienced dynamic growth over the past several decades and it is likely that most social workers will encounter individuals and families who identify with this population at some point in their practice. The aim of this course is to help practitioners begin to develop culturally responsive knowledge and skills that contribute to effective service delivery and successful outcomes in a variety of health care and behavioral health care settings.
Learning Objectives:
Be familiar with the demographic profile of the Latiné population in the United States and their national, ethnic, and racial diversity, psychosocial concerns and challenges, intersectionality, and protective and risk factors;
Increase knowledge of cultural responsiveness and cultural adaptation in practice with Latiné, including engagement, assessment, and intervention;
Develop culturally responsive strategies and adaptation for trauma-informed, solution-focused, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral approaches in social work practice with Latiné individuals, families, and groups.
