Being knowledgeable, empathetic, and skilled when working with any population is key. This is especially true when working with a population that has often had to hide who they are due to safety issues and social stigmas. The SW Code of Ethics core values speak loudly to work with the LGBTQ+ population.
    1. Service – we need to know more about this population to know how to ensure they receive services that are actually what they want and need
    2. Social justice – we need to be allies in the fight for just laws and general treatment of this population
    3. Dignity and worth of the person – individuals need to be treated as worthy, no matter where on the LGBTQ+ spectrum they identify, which means being able to respect the spectrum and individuality
    4. Importance of human relationships – these are key for all individuals, but community of one's peers and space where relationships are not judged are key for this population
    5. Integrity – This population needs to be able to trust that providers and their spaces are safe, they value them, and they can be trusted
    6. Competence-we should know key terms, skills, resources, and more that are specific to this population
